The standing desk problem
A normal desk only has to hide cables. A standing desk has to move them. If the power strip sits on the floor and every cable stretches upward, one height change can pull a charger loose.
| Item | Use | Buying note |
|---|---|---|
| Under-desk cable tray | Holds power strip and power bricks | Check screw depth and desktop material |
| Cable sleeve | Bundles monitor and charger cables | Choose flexible sleeves for moving sections |
| Adhesive clips | Routes small cables along the underside | Use removable adhesive for rented furniture |
| Surge protector | Centralizes power under the desk | Confirm plug spacing for bulky adapters |
Best setup order
- Place the desk at standing height.
- Route every cable with the longest required movement first.
- Mount the power strip under the desktop if possible.
- Bundle only cables that move together.
- Test the full height range before tightening clips.
Common mistake
Do not make cable bundles too tight. A clean cable run that pulls on a monitor, dock, or power brick is worse than a slightly visible cable with enough slack.
