Measure before buying

Most problems come from skipping measurements. Check the length and height of your power strip, the thickness of your desktop, and the amount of room behind the front edge of the desk.

Tray typeBest forTradeoff
Screw-mounted metal trayPermanent setups and heavy power stripsRequires drilling into the desktop
Clamp-on trayRenters and temporary desksMay not fit thick or unusual desk edges
Adhesive racewayLight cables and small chargersNot ideal for bulky adapters
Fabric cable hammockWide desks and flexible routingCan sag if overloaded

Fit the power strip first

If the tray is too shallow for a power strip with large adapters, it will look tidy in photos but fail in daily use. Leave room for plugs to bend naturally.

Installation checklist

  • Confirm desktop thickness and underside clearance.
  • Place the tray where knees and chair arms will not hit it.
  • Keep the power strip switch reachable.
  • Use separate clips for cables that need to leave the tray.
  • Test standing desk height movement before final tightening.
